Star Indian batter Virat Kohli is missing the IND vs ENG Test series. The former India skipper recently became a father for a second time in London. In his absence, Shubman Gill has claimed that Kohli’s absence from the team affects every player. However, Gill also emphasised how other can benefit from it.
Initially, Virat Kohli pulled out of the first 2 Test citing personal reasons. Later on the BCCI revealed that Kohli won’t be a part of the series. In his absence India gave quite a few chances to other players to settle in the middle order. Forged by injuries to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, 3 players got their debut.
“Virat Kohli’s absence affects every team but players who have got opportunity in his absence have done really well,” Shubman Gill said at the pre-match Press Conference in Ranchi.
Gill went on to emphasise how Kohli’s absence affected every player in the team. Kohli is currently in London, enjoying a break with his family. However, there is one silver lining – absence of Kohli means new opportunities for others. Rajat Patidar got his chance in the Vizag Test. On the other hand, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel got their debuts in the Rajkot Test.
Shubman Gill hammered a ton in Vizag and very nearly registered another in the next game. He got a duck on the first innings in Rajkot. However, he came back strongly in the second innings to score 91 before being involved in an unfortunate run out.
