“When I left Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person, with whom I played in the past. It was MS Dhoni. A lot of people have my number, a lot of people give me suggestions, and a lot of people talk about my game on TV. But out of those people who had my number, I didn’t get a message from anyone else barring Dhoni,” Kohli said.

Virat Kohli scored his second successive half-century in a return to form during a crucial game against Pakistan in Dubai. The 33-year-old cracked a stunning 60 to help India post a massive score which eventually was chased down by their rivals.
Kohli’s form has been the talking point across the cricketing fraternity with many criticising him over the last couple of years. The struggle coincided with a difficult phase in his career, having quit captaincy from all formats of the game.
During the press conference after the IND vs PAK game, Kohli revealed that only former captain MS Dhoni has texted him after he had resigned from Test match leadership.

“You have respect, you have a genuine connection with a few people and it looks like that (Dhoni messaging him). It’s a two-way security, I don’t want anything from them nor do they want anything from me,” he added.

The Kohli Dhoni friendship grew during their international cricket days together. It further blossomed when MS took Virat under his wing, with the latter taking over captaincy of all formats from Dhoni eventually. Kohli had recently said that his greatest partnerships and memories came with MS Dhoni in the team, even after three years of his retirement.
