KL Rahul seems to have rediscovered his aggressive brand of playing in IPL 2025. In two matches he has played for DC so far, he has registered scores of 15 (5) and 77 (51), playing with strikes rates of 300 & 150. The batter has credited a change in his mindset and approach towards T20s for his ability to switch to playing aggressively in the shortest format.
“Worked really hard on my white-ball game”: Rahul
In a conversation with DC batting coach Kevin Pietersen after the match against CSK, Rahul revealed that he had he had rediscovered the fun of hitting boundaries and sixes in the recent past. He credited India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar for spending hours with him and working on his white-ball skills.
“I have worked really hard on my white-ball game in the last year or so. Big shoutout to Abhishek Nayar, worked a lot with him every since he’s come into the Indian team. We’ve spent hours talking about my white-ball game & how I can be better. Somewhere along the way I found the fun of playing white-ball cricket,” Rahul said.
Further, Rahul acknowledged that T20 cricket had changed and that it was all about hitting boundaries. He said that previously he focused on taking the game deeper which led to him losing “fun” in the game. The DC star stressed on the need to put pressure on the bowlers and revealed that he enjoyed doing so by hitting boundaries.
When Rahul trained with Nayar
Rahul was seen sweating it out with Abhishek Nayar just before the start of IPL 2025 in March. During the drill, he was seen playing some attacking shots, including one lofted shot over the off-side. This session was perhaps what the batter was referring to during his conversation with Pietersen.
