KL Rahul vs Morne Morkel: Bowling coach turns into net bowler to “help batter” ahead of IND vs NZ 2nd Test

Ahead of IND vs NZ 1st Test, KL Rahul faced India bowling coach Morne Morkel in the nets to prepare for the match in Pune

India cricket team batter KL Rahul is leaving no stones unturned in preparing for IND vs NZ 2nd Test in Pune. The Karnataka star took the help of bowling coach Morne Morkel in the nets as he geared up for the contest that begins on October 24. Rahul’s place in the playing XI is in danger, with the batter failing to fire in the 1st Test in Bengaluru coupled with Sarfaraz Khan’s century and the return of Shubman Gill for the 2nd Test.

A video of the Indian team training shows Morne Morkel rolling over his arms while KL Rahul faced the deliveries at the other end. The former South African pacer, who joined Team India ahead of the IND vs BAN series, revealed that he was bowling nearly after a year, adding that he treaded carefully in the nets with “injury prevention” on his mind.

Can KL Rahul reverse his fortunes in Pune?

Nothing went right for KL Rahul in the 1st Test in Bengaluru. In the first innings, he joined the other batters back in the pavilion in a hurry as he was dismissed for a duck. While the rest of the top order batters went all guns blazing in the 2nd innings, it was only KL Rahul who flopped as he managed just 12 runs. Two days before the 2nd Test, assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate said that the team management was willing to give KL Rahul a long rope, stating that no panic decisions would be taken on the batter.

Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] is keen to give him a long rope like Sanju [Sanju Samson], Yeah, there’s no point in sugarcoating it, there’s a fight for a spot. There’s certainly no concerns about KL, he’s batting nicely, he’s in a good mental space. But we are certainly going to have to fit seven pieces into six spots for this Test and look at the pitch now and decide what’s going to be best for the team,
he said.
