The potential rift between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul and owner Sanjiv Goenka was the talk of the town two months ago. The seemingly ‘heated’ conversation between the two main figures of the UP-based IPL franchise erupted the cricketing fraternity with all kinds of news. And now adding fuel to the fire, Amit Mishra, who is himself part of the LSG franchise, has dropped a bombshell that the team will for a ‘better captain’ than Rahul.
The KL Rahul-Sanjiv Goenka saga
The exchange occurred when this year’s finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decimated the KL Rahul-led side, chasing down a total of 166 runs in a matter of just 58 balls. Following the animated conversation, where Goenka was clearly disappointed with his team’s performance, gained traction more than the match itself. It turned out to be a pivotal moment in LSG’s campaign, ultimately losing out from a qualification spot by just a point. It was also the first occasion, where LSG didn’t end up in top four spot.
LSG will look for a better captain than KL Rahul, says Mishra
Ever since that episode, there were news that LSG owner might look to replace KL Rahul, who was their very first draft pick at Rs 17 crore. In a recent podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, Amit Mishra spilled beans on LSG franchise, saying that the team will definitely look for a better captain than KL Rahul. “The one whose thinking aligns with the team in T20s should be the captain. They will definitely look at it (on removing KL Rahul as captain). LSG will look at a better captain. Hundred percent.“
What really happened between KL Rahul & LSG owner?
In the same podcast, Mishra even disclosed what did Sanjiv Goenka actually said to KL Rahul during their infamous chat. With Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma pummeling LSG bowlers to all parts of the Hyderabad ground, SRH completely thrashed the visitors. As mentioned earlier, LSG owner certainly felt the heat as he seemingly ‘shouted’ at KL Rahul. Talking at the podcast, Mishra revealed, “He (Sanjiv Goenka) really said that ‘what was that bowling performance? At least, show some fight and not surrender like this.’ This was said. At least we should’ve taken this game longer. Even we (LSG) were batting on this same pitch. What did really changed in 20 minutes? However, media hyped it a bit much.“
