KL Rahul indispensable in white ball cricket for India, says Farokh Engineer

KL Rahul has been impressive for India since taking up the role of a wicketkeeper. He has been consistent behind the stumps, as well as scoring a considerable amount of runs for the team.

Former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer on Sunday praised Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and claimed KL Rahul is an irreplaceable part of the Indian team in white ball cricket.

KL Rahul has been impressive for India since taking up the role of a wicketkeeper. He has been consistent behind the stumps, as well as scoring a considerable amount of runs for the team. His good form has led to speculation about whether he is the answer to India’s wicketkeeper-batter problem in white ball cricket.

Engineer has claimed KL Rahul is exactly the solution India have been looking for in ODIs and T20Is, and has claimed KL Rahul is worth its weight in platinum.

“For a One-Day or T20 game, you could play with a batsman-keeper and get away with it. You know, like KL Rahul. He has improved over the years. He kept wickets quite well. He is not a brilliant wicketkeeper. But what a great, brilliant batsman he is. He is definitely worth his weight in platinum to be in the side and keep wickets,” Farokh Engineer said.

“But (for Tests) You got to have your best wicketkeeper. You got to have a wicketkeeper-batsman instead of a batsman-wicketkeeper. Of course, everyone is required to bat these days. In the opinion of selectors, Bharat is a better ‘keeper, is he?,” he added.
