KL Rahul has ’50-50′ chance of making to India’s squad for T20 World Cup

Can KL Rahul break into the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024? While the Lucknow Super Giants captain is doing all he can to make it to the Indian team, former Indian batter Robin Uthappa feels it’s still a ’50-50′ chance.

Start of KL Rahul’s redemption?

KL Rahul was at his fluent best on Friday against Chennai Super Kings, playing a fantastic innings of 82 runs. His innings along with Quinton de Kock’s half-century helped LSG chase the target of 176 with an over to spare.

A lot of questions have been raised about KL Rahul’s slow strike rate. KL Rahul has been scoring runs, but his slow innings have warranted the query as to whether he deserves a place in the Indian side, especially with a host of talented batters waiting in the wings.

However, Rahul on Friday scored the runs at a strike rate of well over 150, putting those questions to bed.

Uthappa not fully convinced yet

Former India batter Robin Uthappa although is still not absolutely convinced about KL Rahul’s spot in the Indian side.

Two things for me that, I would say, still 50-50. One was his health; the second was the way he was batting a couple of weeks ago. The last 3-4 games, the way he has batted, was phenomenal to watch. When he is on song, when he is playing on the merit of the ball, he’s class. He makes batting look so good. He’s one of those guys who make it a delightful experience,” Uthappa said.

The unconventional shots, the upper-cut, or the backfoot punch over the extra cover for a six… I look at that and I’m like, ‘how is this guy doing (that)?’ The skill effort that he possesses… he has so much time. The thing is that the guy with that much ability is going into a shell, saying I need to bat long tonight… he doesn’t need to do that. Just back your skill,” he added.
