It looks like we are not going to see KL Rahul, the captain, again in the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to the IANS, the star batter, who will turn up for the Delhi Capitals from IPL 2025, has declined DC’s offer to captain. With the new season only a handful of days away, the Delhi franchise remains the only team without announcing their leader for the 2025 edition. Now, with KL Rahul saying no to the leadership option, Axar Patel remains at the forefront to skipper the franchise.
Delhi Capitals’ offer declined by KL Rahul
Apparently, the GMR co-owned franchise asked KL Rahul to captain in IPL 2025. However, the ICC Champions Trophy winner likes to contribute solely as a player. The Capitals would be Rahul’s fifth IPL franchise. He last featured for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where he led for three seasons. In the 2024 campaign, Rahul had an animated chat with owner Sanjiv Goenka that was followed by his release. At the mega auction in Jeddah, Rahul was bought by DC for a rather surprising price of Rs 14 crore
“Yes, Axar Patel is likely to be named as Delhi Capitals skipper for IPL 2025. The franchise had asked for KL Rahul to be the team’s captain, but he very much wishes to contribute for the side as a player in the upcoming tournament,” a source told IANS on March 11.
