KL Rahul’s captaincy expertise matches MS Dhoni’s instinct, believes Manjrekar

In the third ODI at Boland Park in Paarl, KL Rahul strategic captaincy played a significant role in India's 78-run victory.

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has lauded KL Rahul, declaring him an expert in the crucial aspect of taking Decision Review System (DRS) calls. Manjrekar went a step further, stating that in this specific domain of captaincy, Rahul’s instincts are on par with the legendary MS Dhoni.

In the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa, where KL Rahul led India to a 2-1 victory, his leadership skills stood out. While KL Rahul made meaningful contributions with the bat, it was his captaincy that earned him praise, especially for his astute use of the DRS.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar complimented Rahul’s calm demeanor on the field, noting that he appears relaxed and comfortable in the leadership role. Emphasizing Rahul’s expertise in DRS calls, Manjrekar drew a parallel with the great MS Dhoni, highlighting the wicketkeeper-batsman’s intuitive decision-making.

“His instinct is equal to MS Dhoni,” Manjrekar remarked, attributing Rahul’s success to his prior captaincy experience in the IPL, Test matches in South Africa, and ODIs.
