KKR vs PBKS: Bairstow & Shashank take Punjab to WORLD RECORD chase

Both are placed second on the points table, the Kolkata Knight Riders from the top and the Punjab Kings from the bottom.

KKR vs PBKS Live Updates, Match 42: There you go. Punjab Kings have don’t the unthinkable as they achieve the highest-ever chase of 262. Jonny Bairstow was the hero of the match as he scored 108 from 48, while Shashank Singh scored 68 from 28.

So after a massive 138-run stand between Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, the Kolkata Knight Riders go on to score the highest-ever score at the Eden Gardens. Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, and Andre Russell had their parts to play as well.

Punjab Kings cruised to a historic win on Friday as they chased down the highest-ever total in the history of T20s — 262. The heroes of the chase were Jonny Bairstow, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.

At the rate at which Bairstow and Rossouw are going, nothing seems chaseable. Punjab now needs just 89 from 48 balls.

Rossouw joins the party

The Punjab Kings now need 130 runs from 10 overs. They are slightly ahead at the halfway mark.

Bairstow back to form

Jonny Bairstow has scored his first fifty of the IPL 2024 season in just 23 balls. The Punjab Kings still need 142 from 11 overs.

Prabhsimran Singh may have departed, but his opening partner, Jonny Bairstow, isn’t looking to stop. He’s raced off to 44 of 21 balls. The Punjab Kings still need 154 from 12 overs (72 balls).

Unfortunate

After playing so well, Prabhsimran is run out for 54. But the good part is, Bairstow has now taken over and scores 24 runs in the over. It is 93/1 after 6 overs.

PBKS have raced to 57/0 in 4 overs, and Prabhsimran has alone scored 43 from 16. This is some start to the chase.

Prabhsimran Singh has made his intentions clear at the start as he hits Harshal Patel for a few runs. PBKS 28/0 after 2.1 overs.

And Chameera starts the proceedings for KKR. It is a good over first up as PBKS are 8/0 after 1 over.

So KKR end up with a massive 261/6 and that happens to be the highest score at the Eden Gardens. All credit to Phil Salt and Sunil Narine.

Iyer rocks

Shreyas Iyer is just showing that he can also bat at a rapid pace. He gets 24 from the Sam Curran over as KKR 239/3 in 18 overs.

Arshdeep gets a wicket here as the dangerman Andre Russell is out for 24 from just 12 balls. It is 203/3.

A good pitch to bat on, and it is digging the grave of medium pacers. Harshal Patel is hit for 18, as it is 38/0 after 3 overs.

Curran starts, and so does Narine. He creams one through the covers. After 1 over it is 7/0.

Iyer says

We’ve had different players stepping up at different times, that’s the thing I’m pleased about this season. Starcy got a cut on his finger in the last game, Dushmantha Chameera replaces him. Need a great start and then convert it into a big score, hoping to continue the same form and momentum.
