Due to Ram Ravmi festivities in Kolkata, one of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 games is all but likely to be rescheduled. With high-security demand in the City of Joy, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) home match at Eden Gardens against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is expected to be hosted in Guwahati.
As per reports, the Kolkata cricketing body has chosen Guwahati as the venue. The larger problem will be, that Kolkata Police and the local authorities won’t be in a position to provide adequate security for the match.
Why a change in IPL 2025 schedule?
Come April 6, Kolkata will be abuzz with festivities as the city celebrates Ram Navami, a massive Hindu festival. The occasion typically sees massive processions taking over the streets of Kolkata. However, this year’s celebrations are coinciding with an IPL match, and the Kolkata Police are facing a logistical nightmare.
Providing adequate security for both the match and the religious events simultaneously is a major concern. This isn’t the first time the IPL has found itself in such a predicament. Last year, a KKR match against Rajasthan Royals had to be rescheduled due to similar security concerns.
“The IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 will be moved out of Kolkata and is likely to be played in Guwahati, CAB president Snehasis Ganguly has confirmed. The game was scheduled on the day of Ram Navami,” states RevSportz.
While the change in the KKR vs LSG match on April 6 has been in discussions for some time now, the venue hasn’t been decided. If turns out true, it will be a great news for fans in Guwahati. The ACA Stadium will already see two home games for the Rajasthan Royals this year.
