KKR vs DC Highlights: Phil Salt and bowlers lead Kolkata to a comfortable 7-wicket win

Kolkata Knight Riders returned to winning ways as they recorded a resounding triumph over the Delhi Capitals at their den

KKR vs DC Highlights: In a one-sided affair on Monday, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cruised to a comfortable 7-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC). Electing to bat first, DC were never able to get going, restricted to a paltry 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. KKR’s spinners, led by Varun Chakravarthy’s 3 wickets for 16 runs, dismantled the DC batting order.

Chasing a modest target, KKR openers provided a solid foundation before being dismissed. However, the middle order cruised to victory with 21 balls to spare, maintaining their second position in the IPL points table.

Vaibhav Arora provide a dream start to KKR

After missing out on action in the last game, Vaibhav Arora was on point right from the start against DC. The uncapped KKR talent took the prized wicket of Prithvi Shaw in his very first over, edging one past off his bat down the leg side. Arora bowled sharply as his deliveries got off the deck in dangerous manner. However, the best dismissal of the night came when Arora cleaned bowled Shai Hope off a cracker. The right-armer squared up Hope with a ball that looked to come in but went straight to bamboozle the stumps. His dismissal sent DC reeling at 37-3.

Phil Salt take DC bowlers by storm

Phil Salt’s fiery form in IPL 2024 continued unabated. The English opener unleashed another aggressive knock, smashing a quickfire 68 off just 33 balls. While his teammate Sunil Narine couldn’t replicate his heroics, Salt took center stage. He tore apart the Delhi Capitals bowlers, particularly during the powerplay overs. In fact, Salt amassed a staggering 60 runs in the powerplay itself, the highest ever by a KKR batsman in that phase throughout IPL history. This early onslaught set the tone for a dominant KKR win.

A superb six over covers to wrap up the win

Phil Salt’s explosive knock at the top of the order provided KKR with a massive advantage. His quickfire 68 runs put them firmly in control of the chase. However, there was a slight wobble in the middle overs as KKR lost three wickets. This brought together the Iyer duo – Shreyas and Venkatesh.

The two Iyers displayed contrasting, yet crucial, approaches. Venky Iyer played a composed innings, anchoring the chase. Skipper Shreyas, on the other hand, complemented him perfectly with his aggressive style. Together, they stitched together an unbeaten 57-run partnership off just 43 balls, effectively sealing the win for KKR. Venkatesh Iyer finished the match in style, launching a six with 21 balls remaining, showcasing his hitting prowess.
