KKR suffer third consecutive poor powerplay at 41/4, give upper hand to MI

SKY praises KKR’s GOAT, Sunil Narine
IPL 2025, MI vs KKR: Kolkata Knight Riders, despite some good batting performances in the tournament, have been poor in powerplays.

Powerplay’s have a great importance in T20s, and given the IPL sees scores over 200 rather easily, the focus on the first six overs, becomes twice as crucial. But KKR, didn’t have the best possible start to their innings vs Mumbai Indians on Monday, where they had a poor powerplay at 41/4, at the Wankhede Stadium.

KKR Lose Four in Powerplay

With MI’s pacers shining — Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya bagged wickets — KKR slumped to one of the worst powerplay score in IPL 2025, coming close to 30/3 by CSK against RCB. Somehow, despite having Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine, along with Ajinkya Rahane at the top, their batting hasn’t clicked at all.

KKR in the first match happened to get 60/1 in the powerplay vs RCB, and then 40/0 vs RR. In this match vs MI too, de Kock was out for 1, followed by a duck by Sunil Narine, 11 by Ajinkya Rahane and 3 by Venkatesh Iyer. In short, batting has emerged as a concern for Kolkata, with de Kock being their top-scorer in IPL 2025, with only 102 runs in three matches.

Batting Woes Continue in IPL 2025

Next on the list is Rahane, who has scored 85 so far in as many games, followed by Raghuvanshi at 78. Having said that, the issues did not stop only at the powerplay for KKR, who lost three more wickets in the next six overs, with debutant bowler Ashwani Kumar bagging three wickets.

KKR Playing XI vs MI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh , Spencer Johnson, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy.
