At the time of the toss, KKR skipper Morgan said: “We are going to bowl first. It’s worked. We have kept the same side. Guys know their role. The mindset in the second leg has been spot-on.”

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan(c), Dinesh Karthik(w), Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan, Lockie Ferguson, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakaravarthy

The two-time champions made it to Qualifier 2 after beating RCB in the Eliminator on Monday. A win will see KKR make it to their first final since 2014, where they’ll face off CSK.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have bounced back emphatically in IPL 2021 Phase 2 to make it to the playoffs. The two-time champions had struggled in Phase 1, but did well to beat the competition and make it to the top four, and will be hoping to end their trophy drought.

Earlier, the KKR skipper had said, “Andre is working really hard on his fitness along with our physio and medical team. He is having a grade 2 hamstring tear and it has only been a couple of weeks since then. We only have 48 runs before the next game. So we will have to take that decision based on how he will present himself tomorrow and next day.”

However, KKR have Shakib Al Hasan as a proper replacement, with the Bangladesh all-rounder proving to be a handy operator with both bat and ball. Shakib was due to join Bangladesh’s national team camp but was given extended permission to be available for Qualifier 2.

KKR Playing XI vs DC:

  • KKR have found the perfect opening combination with Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill in fine form and completing each other’s style of play.
  • Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana and Eoin Morgan form the middle order core, followed by finishers in Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine.
  • Shakib is an able option down the order.
  • The long batting order gives KKR the license to aggressively attack the opposition bowling, which has worked well for them in the IPL 2021 Phase 2.
  • Narine and Varun Chakravarthy will lead the spin contingent, while Lockie Ferguson and Shivam Mavi make the pace department in what is a well-rounded side.
  • The likes of Shakib, Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer can all chip in with the ball when required.

Delhi Capitals had lost its Qualifier 1 clash against CSK while KKR defeated RCB in the Eliminator.
