KKR captaincy conundrum continues, Rinku Singh’s promotion in Vijay Hazare Trophy makes job more difficult

Rinku Singh was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders on IPL 2025 Retention Day

Kolkata Knight Riders will now have big trouble ahead of IPL 2025. But this is one such case, which the team will happily welcome. The defending IPL champions are without a captain, and after the IPL 2025 Mega Auction haven’t named anyone. With Rinku Singh now named captain of Uttar Pradesh for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he is now a captaincy candidate for the Knights.

KKR didn’t retain their IPL 2024 title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer. And thus as a result, he underwent the hammer and was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping price of 26.75 crores. As for the Kolkata outfits, they spilled 23.75 crores to re-buy their ace batter, Venkatesh Iyer.

Will Rinku Singh captain KKR in IPL 2025?

Rinku Singh has been awarded for his domestic cricket exploits in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He went on to score 277 runs from 9 games with a stunning average of 69 and a healthy strike rate of 152. And now he will captain his state for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

While KKR is yet to finalize their captain, Rinku Singh‘s inclusion will now make the job a bit harder for the KKR think tank. Reports claim that Ajinkya Rahane leads the charts to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders. Among other choices, Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine too are prime choices.

But Rinku Singh can also be a good choice. Unlike the other names, he is relatively young and thus can adapt accordingly. His ability to finish matches and being a regular for India in T20Is have already made him an experienced campaigner in the shortest format of the game.
