Team India star batter Virat Kohli went on to surpass Sachin Tendulkar as he stroked his record 50th ODI century. The knock came against a quality bowling line-up of New Zealand as the Kiwis had absolutely no answers to Virat Kohli’s brilliance with the bat. Meanwhile, the netizens on social media praised Kohli for his excellent knock.
Virat Kohli was dismissed on 117 runs
Kohli completed his century in the 42nd over of the first innings. As stated above, the 35-year-old achieved his 50th ODI century, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar. The moment became more special as Kohli not only reached the landmark in front of his cricketing idol but also at the venue where he carried Tendulkar on his shoulders after the 2011 World Cup.
After the century, Kohli took off his helmet came as he raised his hands before bowing down. Tendulkar, in response, stood and applauded, and the Wankhede embraced the historic moment, rightfully acknowledging Kohli’s stellar feat.
As mentioned above, Kohli stroked 117 runs in just 113 deliveries. The right-handed batter smashed 9 fours and two maximums before being dismissed by pacer Tim Southee as Devon Conway completed a good catch at the square-leg boundary.
