Senior batter Virat Kohli brought out his best against West Indies as he went on to stroke a fifty in 147 balls which is his third slowest fifty in the red ball format. This is Kohli’s 29th Test fifty as he has now amassed 2nd most 50+ scores in away games for India.

Kohli walked into bat at his normal No. 4 position on Day 2 evening after India had lost skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in quick succession. The right-handed batter joined Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had hit a century on his Test debut. There were signs of nerves as the West Indies bowlers were looking to scalp a couple more before the end of the day’s play. However, the both Kohli and Jaiswal survived the day.
Coming to bat on Day 3, Kohli got an early reprieve as opposition skipper Kraigg Brathwaite dropped a regulation catch at the short cover region on the bowling of Warrican. Kohli took full advantage of the reprieve as he went on to smash his 29th Test fifty. With his fifty, Kohli now also has the second most overseas Test fifty for India. The first on the list is Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
Meanwhile, team India score has gone past the 400-run mark in the first innings with Kohli reaching his 70s. The modern-day great will want to convert his fifty to a century after the Lunch break and help his team to get a solid lead after the first innings of the match.
