Kevin Pietersen’s ‘on air’ curse is real, DC lose key wickets during mentor’s sideline interview

Kevin Pietersen’s ‘on air’ curse is real, DC lose key wickets during mentor’s sideline interview

Having joined DC as their mentor for the IPL 2025 season, Pietersen may have played a role in his team's downfall against LSG.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had two eerie coincidences. First, it was the fact that Rishabh Pant departed for a duck on his LSG captaincy debut, something that had happened to former KL Rahul as well, all the way back in 2022. This happened in the first innings when LSG were batting.

DC mentor gets captain & vice-captain out

When DC’s turn came, another weird incident happened. Chasing 210, the Axar-Patel side was in trouble. By 1.4 overs, they were reduced to 7/3. Then Axar, with his deputy Faf du Plessis, saved DC. They got to the 50-run mark without any wickets. Then tragedy struck.

The broadcasters had called DC’s mentor Kevin Pietersen to have a chat before the 6th over start. They had just started talking, and Axar was caught by Nicholas Pooran off the bowling of Digvesh Rathi. Due to this, the broadcasters cut the interview taken on the sidelines short.

The powerplay ended. The strategic timeout was taken, and when the match restarted, Pietersen returned to complete the conversation. And once again, a wicket fell. This was it; it was vice-captain Faf. Even the commentators and KP himself were shocked.

DC fans unhappy with Kevin Pietersen

People online also noticed this. “Kevin Pietersen ke mic pakadte hi DC ka ek batter ludhak jaata hai (As soon as Kevin Pietersen picks up the mic, one DC batter gets out),” a fan wrote online. While another jokingly stated that KP was playing for the opposition, “Kevin Pietersen strikes twice for LSG.”
