Former England batter Kevin Pietersen drew a comparision between India’s Shubman Gill and South Africa great Jacques Kallis after the former’s failure in IND vs ENG 2nd Test. Riding on the back of recent miserable Test outings, Gill failed to convert after a good start and was dismissed for just 34 runs.
IND vs ENG: Kallis, Gill on same level? KP thinks so
Defending an out of form Gill, KP claimed that even Kallis had an average of 22 in his first 10 Tests but had gone on to become the greatest player. The England star asserted that Gill be given the time to find his mojo, adding that he was a ‘serious player’.
At the stroke of lunch on day one, Gill threw away his wicket once more. The talented player from Punjab played some decent shots for his attacking 34 from 46 balls, striking five boundaries, but a James Anderson special, removed Gill.
Once again, he offered to play a shot on a delivery that was well outside the off stump. But here, the credit should be given to Anderson, who set him up brilliantly. In the over, he brought the ball in, to Gill, that he defended solidly. But the fifth ball of the 28th over saw Anderson change his line, as Gill edged it to the keeper Ben Foakes.
