In a grand gesture for his exceptional contribution to Indian hockey, the Kerala government has announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore for PR Sreejesh, the former goalkeeper of the Indian men’s hockey team.

Sreejesh, who recently retired from international hockey after guiding India to a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, has been lauded for his consistent performance and crucial role in the team’s success. His stellar show in the tournament, particularly his ability to thwart attacks and make splendid saves, earned immense admiration.
The decision to honor Sreejesh was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. “P R Sreejesh, who was a member of the Indian hockey team that won a bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, will be given a cash award of Rs two crore,” the CMO statement said.
Sreejesh’s journey to international glory began in 2004 when he made his debut for India against Australia. Over the years, he has been a pivotal figure in the team, winning two Asian Games gold medals (2014 and 2023), four Asian Champions Trophy titles, and most recently, a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
