Former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson faced some heat in the commentary box after David Warner completed a century in the AUS vs PAK 1st Test at Perth on Thursday. Johnson had grabbed limelight after making controversial remarks on David Warner in his column. The former cricketer had questioned David Warner’s spot in the Test team and also debated whether the Southpaw deserved to get a ‘hero farewell’ after his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in 2018.
However, while on air during AUS vs PAK 1st Test on Thursday, commentator James Brayshaw passed a cheeky comment towards Johnson, who was commentating alongside him. He said, “Now I haven’t seen you in the lead-up to this game Johno (Johnson). Anything been going on? Not really? Keeping a low profile?”
Johnson continued the banter with a sarcastic response, “Laying low. Nah all good here in the West. The sun’s been shining, mate,” said Johnson.
David Warner, in his swansong Test series, came out all guns blazing to put pressure back on Pakistan and silenced his critics with some style. This was his 26th Test hundred and his sixth against Pakistan.
Pat Cummins defends Warner
After the day’s play, Australian skipper Pat Cummins hailed David Warner and said that it came as a surprise to him that Warner has been under scrutiny for such a long time.
“Davey is a great player. He is amazing. I think he was aggressive and put the pressure back on Pakistan. He made it look easier than it was. Brilliant innings from him on a tough wicket. I can’t say exactly. He works his own way by playing attacking cricket. He comes out of the bunkers, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s a surprise that he has been under scrutiny for a while, but he gets his own way to score runs and does time and time again,” said skipper Pat Cummins.
