“Keep wasting time”: Rishabh Pant discloses masterplan that helped India win T20 World Cup

India Cricket Team star Rishabh Pant reveals 'time wasting' masterplan that helped Team India win ICC T20 World Cup

If Suryakumar Yadav’s incredible catch helped India lift the ICC T20 World Cup, then Rishabh Pant taping his knee was equally important. Rishabh Pant’s time wasting was instrumental in breaking South Africa’s momentum as that triggered a collapse. And now Rishabh Pant has disclosed his strategy that proved to be incredibly important in India’s victory at Barbados.

It was South Africa who was riding the tide. Heinrich Klaasen looked deadly and was inching closer in picking up the win. Eventually, the game reached a stage where South Africa needed just 30 runs from 30 balls. And then came Rishabh Pant‘s masterplan to slow down the game proved extremely crucial.

“I was thinking about this. Because suddenly the momentum shifted. There were a lot of runs in 2-3 overs. So, I was thinking, when will this moment come again when you are playing in a World Cup final. So, I was telling the physio, that you take your time, keep wasting the time,” Rishabh Pant said.

Prior to the incident, Axar Patel was hammered hard by the Proteas batters as the momentum completely shifted towards South Africa. And then Pant decided to lie down on the field as the physio started taping his right knee. Pant recalled how he asked the physio to slow down and waste time.

“He was asking me if I was okay. I told him I’m just acting. Sometimes in such a match situation, I am not saying that it works every time, But sometimes it works. And if it works in such a moment, you want nothing else,” Rishabh Pant said in the viral video,” Pant added.

Pant claimed how the entire setup was a ruse and he was acting to be injured. He further clarified that this stint doesn’t always work in all matches. But then it clicked, and eventually India Cricket Team could make a sensational comeback and lift their second ICC T20 World Cup trophy.
