Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant expressed his support for the Indian side during the World Test Championship Final match against Australia on Saturday. Pant missed the WTC Final as he continues to recuperate from the injuries he incurred in a vehicle accident last year. Fans of the Indian cricket team missed Pant as wicketkeeper KS Bharat, who is filling his place, only managed to score five runs in the first innings of the crucial match against Australia.
While Australia set a 444-run target, many supporters came in remembrance of India’s historic Test victory at Brisbane’s Gabba, when Pant produced an outstanding performance to lead India to victory. The Bharat Army on Saturday shared a video of a fan from the Oval in London talking about missing Rishabh Pant in a chase like this on their Twitter page. Pant also replied and tweeted, ‘Keep believing, let’s do it team India @BCCI.’
Coming to the match, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane kept India in the game after losing Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara in the run chase. India have scored of 164/3 and need 280 on the last day to win. Scott Boland shattered the hearts of the Indians by dismissing Gill just before tea in the moments before Sharma and Pujara were snatched up by Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins. Before Boland’s blow, Gill and his opening partner Rohit Sharma had amassed 41/0 in the first seven overs.
India were given the assignment to chase after Australia declared their second innings at 270/8 in 84.3 overs with wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey still unbeaten on 66. India now have to fight to exceed the previous record of 418 for the most successful fourth innings chase in a Test match in order to earn the WTC title.
