India’s T20I series against Bangladesh has provided a platform for young talent to stake their claim at the biggest stage. With the series already clinched in New Delhi, the final match in Hyderabad offers an opportunity for fringe players to make their mark. Among those in contention is Harshit Rana, a promising fast bowler who has been patiently waiting for his international debut.
Ryan ten Doeschate & his subtle hint before IND vs BAN 3rd T20I
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate hinted at the possibility of giving Rana a chance in the final T20I. This aligns with the team’s strategy of providing exposure to young players and building depth for future tournaments. Rana’s inclusion would certainly be a reward for his consistent performances. Not long ago, he bagged two four-wicket hauls for India ‘D’ in the recent Duleep Trophy.
“Yeah, that was always the plan. Obviously, there’s nice depth in the squad, and a lot of guys have got IPL experience. We try to expose as many guys as we can to international experience with what we’ve got coming up. So someone like Harshit Rana we’re keen to give a game to. Obviously, Tilak came into the squad a bit later,” Ryan ten Doeschate said in the pre-match press conference on the eve of the final T20I against Bangladesh.
More on IND vs BAN
Prior to the T20I series against Bangladesh, there were talks that the team management would have a toss-up between Harshit Rana and Mayank Yadav. However, Gautam Gambhir has stuck with the vicious pace of Mayank, giving him the prestigious debut in Gwalior. Harshit Rana, however, has been on the sidelines and was even devoided from his debut in the Sri Lankan series as well.
Harshit Rana debut: Not what KKR want?
While Rana’s debut would be a dream come true for him, it could also have implications for his IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). If Rana remains uncapped at the end of the Bangladesh series, KKR would have the advantage of retaining him as an uncapped player for just INR 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 retentions.
