Kapil Dev 64th Birthday: Today marks the 64th birthday of India’s first cricket World Cup winning captain. The dynamic all-rounder is the only cricketer in Test history to have amassed more than 5000 runs and taken more than 400 wickets. In fact, Kapil still holds the ninth-place rank on the all-time list and holds the world record for the most Test wickets (434), topping legendary New Zealander Sir Richard Hadlee. Many cricketers, both current and former, expressed their wishes for the venerable player on social media.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also used Twitter to reflect on the 1983 World Cup-winning captain’s accomplishments. “356 international matches, 9,031 international runs, 687 international wickets. India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain. Birthday wishes to Mr Kapil Dev – one of the finest all-rounders to have ever graced the game.”
