For the first time, the Bangladesh cricket team are facing the heat in India. There are protests, threats of violence and obstruction to IND vs BAN 2nd Test. Considering that, UP Police have transformed Kanpur into a war zone, ramping up security for Shakib Al Hasan & Co. There will be additional security in place while UP Police are also coordinating with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the state intelligence agencies to provide security to the Bangladesh team. Both teams will arrive in Kanpur on Tuesday evening.
“We are reviewing the security arrangements to leave no stone unturned and confident of getting an adequate police force to meet the requirements,” Kanpur’s Additional Commissioner of Police Harish Chander told PTI. He added that senior-ranking officials will be deployed during the match which starts on September 27.
Additional security in team hotel
Hotel Landmark which will host both India and Bangladesh teams has been divided into sectors, zones and sub-zones. DCP, additional DCPs and ACPs will be in charge of those zones. DCP (East) Shrawan Kumar Singh will be the nodal officer for the entire event.
In addition, there will be deployment of snipers, sniffer dogs and bomb squad units for the IND vs BAN Kanpur Test.
FIR lodged against protestors
Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha has threatened to disrupt the match in Kanpur and Gwalior. They organised a ‘havan’ by obstructing the road near the Greenfield stadium in Kanpur. UP Police have lodged an FIR against 20 people for organising a ‘havan’ under BNS sections of 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 191 (2) (rioting), 223 (disobeying an order promulgated by a public servant), and 285 (obstruction or injury to any person in any public way) as per a PTI report.
Bangladesh got an additional security cover in Chennai as well. The teams put up on one floor with police personnel guarding the floors.
“The BCCI has given us the assurance. At this point in time, we are happy with the conversations we had with the Board officials. The team is flying out to Chennai in a couple of days and we are not planning to send any additional security cover from our end,” Faruque Ahmed, the interim Bangladesh Cricket Board President, told Sportstar before the IND vs BAN Test series began.
