The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 suffered a major blow, even before the tournament started. The 10th edition will kick off on April 11, and one of the marquee players has been ruled out of the first half. Kane Williamson, who had joined Karachi Kings (KK) after going unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, the New Zealand great had decided to get a PSL contract.
Injured Kane Williamson to miss PSL matches
However, due to a quad injury, Williamson will miss five matches and will join the team before KK before their sixth match of the PSL 2025 season against the Quetta Gladiators in Lahore. This has been confirmed by KK owner Salman Iqbal himself.
Williamson had injured himself during the Champions Trophy Final against India and has been working as a paundit in the IPL after failing to attract a bid in Jeddah.
“Kane Williamson will not field in the second innings of the Champions Trophy final due to a quad strain sustained while batting. Mark Chapman has taken his place in the field,” New Zealand Cricket had said at the time.
Given that PSL are competing with the IPL this time, not having Williamson will hurt the tournament. Luckily for KK, they have David Warner as well, who, apart from being the captain of the franchise, might be the face of the PSL along with Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan.
