Williamson returns to lead as NZ announce World Cup squad via cute video

Six players that have been chosen for the event for the first time join Williamson and Southee, who played for the BLACKCAPS the last time the tournament was hosted in India in 2011.

Kane Williamson, the captain, and veteran bowler Tim Southee have been named to the New Zealand squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. The duo has joined a unique group of athletes who have been chosen for four or more ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

At an event this morning at Ish Sodhi’s old school, Auckland’s Papatoetoe High School, the experienced New Zealand squad was announced ahead of the Worlds Cup 2023, which starts on October 5 in India.

Six players that have been chosen for the event for the first time join Williamson and Southee, who played for the BLACKCAPS the last time the tournament was hosted in India in 2011.

After previously being included in T20 World Cup squads, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Glenn Phillips are included in the squad for the first time for the ODI World Cup.

Both Rachin Ravindra, an all-arounder, and Will Young, a batsman, are chosen for their first senior World Cup teams.

New Zealand Squad for World Cup 2023 balanced by seniors

An experienced core, which includes Trent Boult, Matt Henry, and Tom Latham, all of whom are in their third 50-over World Cup squads, balances the group of fresh players.

After taking a record-equaling 21 catches at the previous competition, Latham, who is also listed as the New Zealand squad vice-captain, will continue to wear the gloves.

Additionally, the team includes Lockie Ferguson, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi, all of whom made their professional debuts in 2019 in England and Wales.

No matter if it was your first or fourth event, according to BLACKCAPS coach Gary Stead, it was an exciting day for everyone involved.

Luke Ronchi, the batting coach, and Shane Jurgensen, the bowling coach, will serve as Stead’s regular assistants in India.

The competition will be Jurgensen’s final task with the team in his current position before he transitions to Cricket Wellington as the Wellington Firebirds’ head coach. For the course of the competition, James Foster will serve in the capacity of assistant coach.
