Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly, together, expect some popcorn-worthy action. After a spectacular comeback from the Rajasthan Royals, the Delhi Capitals were under pressure. With nothing going their way, DC head coach Ponting and director Ganguly let the nerves get the better of them and engaged in a lengthy discussion with the fourth umpire in the RR vs DC match.
In the very first over of the second inning, Ponting was seen having an animated conversation with the umpire in the dugout. The coach seemed to be unhappy about Rowan Powell coming in to field for Shubham Dubey, despite Nandre Burger being named as the impact player substitute in place of Shimron Hetmyer for the Rajasthan Royals.
Were Ricky Ponting & Sourav Ganguly right?
Both Ponting and Ganguly seemed to have failed to understand the impact player rule properly. The duo thought that Powell had come in as the fifth overseas player on the field, but Hetmyer had already been subbed out for Burger at the start of the inning. That means that, including Powell, there were just 4 overseas players on the field, and the DC staff had failed to completely understand the rule.
