Jos Buttler has played an all-timer at the Eden Gardens. The Rajasthan Royals opener not only scored a second ton of the IPL 2024 season but also took his side to the highest successful run-chase victory in the history of the IPL. Coincidentally, Buttler was part of the previous most successful chase as well, having hunted down 224 against the Punjab Kings in 2020.
The opener was struggling at one point and had a strike rate of around 130. The wicketkeeper batter went berserk from there and ended with a strike rate of almost 180 at the end. Jos Buttler also registered his 8th IPL ton and now only needs one more to level Virat Kohli’s record of most IPL centuries.
Highest successful run-chase in IPL
Run chase | Team | Opposition | Year |
---|---|---|---|
224 | Rajasthan Royals | Kolkata Knight Riders | 2024 |
224 | Rajasthan Royals | Punjab Kings | 2020 |
219 | Mumbai Indians | Delhi Capitals | 2019 |
217 | Rajasthan Royals | Delhi Capitals | 2008 |
217 | Sunrisers Hyderabad | Rajasthan Royals | 2023 |
Interestingly, the Rajasthan Royals feature thrice in the list. They now hold the top two spots and the fourth position as well, having chased 224 successfully twice in 2024 and 2020 and 217 in the inaugural edition of the IPL. But the franchise has also been on the brunt of it; they were thrashed to pieces by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as they failed to defend 217 last season.
