The England Cricket Team have a big selection headache. Should they continue with Jonny Bairstow or not? This is the primary question that is troubling the Three Lions. The visitors lost by 434 runs in the Rajkot Test and trail the series by 2-1. With England batters being poor, questions continue to be raised at power batter Jonny Bairstow.
The Yorkshire batter has been a shadow of his former self. The hard hitting batter has managed a highest score of 37 runs in his last 6 innings. But after performances that read – 37, 10, 25, 26, 0 and 4, the Three Lions ought to be a concerned.
Questions were raised whether the number 5 batter would be dropped for the Ranchi Test. But England head coach Brendon McCullum is keen to lend his support to the 34-year old. “I don’t have concerns over him. I’m not blind but he’s done so well for us and he’s had such an impactful career,” McCullum said.
“We know a top-quality Jonny Bairstow is as good as anyone in any conditions so we’ve got to keep on giving him confidence and block out a lot of the external noise. I’m sure Jonny will come good,” McCullum added.
Who Can Replace Jonny Bairstow?
The most primitive question. Who can replace Jonny Bairstow. There is only one available option – Dan Lawrence. But that won’t be the likely case. It is interesting to note that Bairstow doesn’t have to be keep wickets in this series. Instead it is Ben Foakes who is positioned behind the wickets.
“You know I can’t answer that. I haven’t even seen the wicket but I’d anticipate Jonny would be playing, yes,” McCullum added on Bairstow’s chances of playing in the IND vs ENG Ranchi Test.
