Jofra Archer snubbed as England pick Brydon Carse as replacement for Reece Topley

Carse has picked up 14 wickets in the 12 ODIs he's played so far.

After getting the approval of the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Cup 2023, the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) has named Brydon Carse as the replacement for Reece Topley in the England squad.

Carse, who is a right-arm pacer, has played 12 ODIs for England and was last seen in the England vs Ireland series played in September.

Brydon Carse was also a part of the ENG vs NZ series played in September

Topley, who was England’s best bowler against South Africa on Sunday, had been ruled out of the tournament after breaking his left index finger while attempting to take a catch off his own bowling.

The shocking thing, however, is that Jofra Archer is not being selected in place of Topley. Jofra had been taken to the World Cup 2023 as a traveling reserve, but England coach Matthew Mott had already made it clear that Jofra would not be added to the squad.

Why was Brydon Carse picked ahead of Jofra Archer?

The only reason behind Carse getting picked ahead of Jofra is the concerns regarding the fitness of the latter. While Jofra was seen training and doing laps in the Wankhede Stadium before the ENG vs SA match, no official statement on his fitness has been made yet.

Given the habit of his body breaking down over the last couple of years, the ECB might have decided to not risk further injury to Archer and decided to go ahead with Carse.
