Joe Root edges ahead in Fab 5 World Cup race with classy fifty

Joe Root slams first fifty of ICC World Cup 2023, gets heft advantage in race of Fab 5

Joe Root slammed the first fifty of the ICC World Cup 2023 in the opening match between England vs New Zealand. The dominant English batter brought his half-century in just 57 balls. Root found himself in the crease quite early after Dawid Malan departed early. Root and Buttler then carried on the English charge and have taken a comfortable lead in the race of the FAB 5.

Not too aggressive and neither too defensive, Joe Root carried his batting in sublime perfection. He slammed 2 fours and 1 gigantic six to bring up his much-needed half-century. Among other stats, Joe Root now has the most Fifty-plus scores for England in ICC tournaments.

Joe Root found himself on the crease quite early after Dawid Malan was dismissed after scoring just 14 runs. While the Kiwis continued to strike wickets at regular intervals and broke crucial partnerships, Joe Root stood firm.

Displaying modest aggression, he continued to strike the poor balls and keep the scoreboard ticket by rotating regular strikes. And with this fifty he becomes the first of the Fab 5 to slam a half-century and thereby extend his dominance in the race of the Fab 5.

While fans have heavily tipped Virat Kohli to become the highest scorer of the tournament, it is Joe Root who has pounced on his first opportunity to slam a fifty and will push to convert it to a century. Kane Williamson is not playing the first match. Babar Azam also has a good chance to get some huge runs as Pakistan takes on Netherlands.

As for Kohli and Smith, the duo will lock horns with one another on Sunday, October 8th when India takes on Australia.
