India’s wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma reflected on his knock in his second game for the side against Australia, crediting his belief, the process and his coach. The keeper-batter was called up for the five-match T20I series vs AUS which began soon after the conclusion of the World Cup 2023. He featured in India’s playing XI in the 4th T20I and is also a part of the team for the final game as well.
In an interview ahead of the game, Jitesh Sharma revealed what the team expected him to do and spoke about what went behind his success. He also went on to speak about showcasing his talent after his feats in the domestic circle. Sharma credited India’s coach for his placement in the playing XI while also lauding the team’s effort so far.
“The message was every clear that you have to express and I was under pressure because it was my second game. When I saw the offspinner, I wanted to go after him, does not matter whether it is the fourth or fifth ball. It is about the belief and the process has to be alright. You have the confidence and have done well in domestic and you can showcase the talent here. It is a just a game, I have to watch the ball and hit it. Whole credit [to move to the middle order] goes to my coach. He took the decision I had to bat in the middle order“, Jitesh Sharma said, in an interview.
Jitesh Sharma wreaks havoc at IND vs AUS 4th T20I
Jitesh Sharma has been waiting in the wings. And in just 19 deliveries, he smashed 35 runs including three sixes to rescue India from a tough spot in the IND vs AUS 4th T20. With that, he has drawn selectors’ attention with T20 World Cup 2024 only seven months away. His knock will be all the more interesting as he joins the race for wicketkeeper-batters.
Making his first international appearance outside the Asian Games, Jitesh Sharma made a stellar start. Jitesh scored two brilliant sixes in the same over to open his scoresheet. He partnered well with Rinku Singh to take India to about 168 for four wickets. However, things went downhill from them. Sharma fell off soon caught by Travis Head off Ben Dwarshuis.
