Delhi Capitals have received a blow to their fast bowling department. Australian pacer Jhye Richardson is all set to miss the first half of IPL 2024 owing to an injury. DC paid a whopping Rs 5 Crore to secure his services at the IPL auction. However, he is recovering from a side strain and won’t be available. BCCI has released only 17 days of IPL 2024 schedule as they wait for Lok Sabha Election dates to be out.
“He’s touch and go but will definitely be available for some part of IPL,” Delhi Capitals co-owner Paarth Jindal told ESPN Cricinfo.
Jhye Richardson injury
The fast bowler played for Punjab Kings back in 2021. However, he did not feature in the last two seasons.
In the Big Bash League, he has been a revelation, bagging 94 wickets in 70 matches at an average of 20.91 and economy rate of 7.75.
However, Richardson missed the latter half of BBL 2023-24 with the side strain. And he also did not feature in the West Indies series. He has been out since January.
Latest on IPL 2024
But Delhi Capitals will be relieved to know that Anrich Nortje is all set for a comeback in IPL 2024.
The South African fast bowler has been out since September 2023 with a groin injury. He missed the World Cup. However, he has recovered and is available from the first match.
“He’s fit. Right now, he is bowing at 80% intensity. Next week, he will bowl at 100%. He’s going to make his comeback in the IPL. He is going to join our camp and should be good to go for our first game,” Jindal said.
