The India Cricket Team has embarked on its preparation for the ICC World Cup. The Men in Blue take on West Indies in the ongoing ODI series and are slated to play quite a few ODI games before the mega tournament. Ahead of the India tour of Ireland series, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that there will be consistency in the team selections.
"There will be consistency in selections apart from Ireland tour," Jay Shah told the media. He made it clear that save Bumrah, who will be making a comeback, none of the World Cup bound senior players, including T20 captain Hardik Pandya will be selected for the three-match series which starts within six days of completion of the five T20Is against West Indies in the United States. The Apex cricket body of the country has made it clear that there will not be too much experimentation in the selection process ahead of the World Cup. India is set to play 5 T20I matches after the ODI series, following which the second string will travel to Ireland for a 3-match T20I series. After that, the Men in Blue will travel to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup and then welcome Australia for an ODI series as part of the preparation for the World Cup.
Reducing too much experimentation in the selection process has two major advantages 1) The core team remains intact, 2) No false promises are made to standby players.

BCCI unwilling to recreate Ambari Rayudu Saga
The Ambati Rayudu saga involving Vijay Shankar and the then BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad is still fresh on everyone’s mind. While the then-skipper Virat Kohli had put his trust in Rayudu to take the number 4 spot in the Indian team for the ICC World Cup 2019. But it was the BCCI who continued to favour Vijay Shankar.
Rayudu who kept as a standby was not selected in the World Cup squad. When Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar were injured, Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal were selected as replacements, keeping Rayudu frustrated who then announced his retirement.
It is evident from Jay Shah’s words that such a thing is not expected to happen again this time or in the near future. The BCCI’s top brass has made it clear that the selection process will be consistent which will be a key factor for the Indian team in the upcoming mammoth tournament.
