Jay Shah confirms Mohammed Shami to miss T20 World Cup, likely return in Bangladesh series

No IPL 2024, Jay Shah confirms Mohammed Shami set to miss ICC T20 World Cup, pacer targets return in IND vs BAN Test series

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that ace pacer Mohammed Shami will miss the ICC T20 World Cup. Shami is currently recovering from his ankle injury and will also miss IPL 2024. It is reported that the speedster is targeting a comeback for the IND vs BAN Test series.

Shami has been out of action after the ODI World Cup. He recently went to UK to undergo surgery on his ankle. And now the pacer continues to recover from his Achilles tendon. India is slated to play against Bangladesh in September, which is when Mohammed Shami is likely to be back.

“Shami surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh. KL Rahul needed an injection, he has started rehab and is at the NCA,” Jay Shah told PTI.

Shami not only missed the India tour of South Africa, he also missed the 5 Test match series against England. And with a long time needed for the recovery after surgery, Shami will also miss the IPL.

In fact Shami won’t be fit in time for the ICC T20 World Cup. As a result, the highest wicket taker of ODI World Cup will seek his comeback in September. The Men in Blue will face the neighbours for 2 Test matches and 3 T20I games.

Team India has made it clear that Shami’s return won’t be rushed. As a result, Mohammed Shami now has around 6 months to recover and then hit the field.
