Jasprit Bumrah’s short reign as number 1 Test bowler ends, Virat Kohli out of top 10 batters

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin have slipped down the ICC rankings for bowlers in Tests while Virat Kohli is no longer in the top ten rankings for batters

India cricket team pacer Jasprit Bumrah slipped down two spots on the rankings for Test bowlers following India’s defeat in IND vs NZ 2nd Test. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada replaced the Indian at the top of the rankings following a phenomenal spell in BAN vs SA 1st Test. Ravichandran Ashwin has also moved down by two spots while Pakistan’s Noman Ali has jumped 8 sports to storm into the top ten after PAK vs ENG series.

Jasprit Bumrah’s reign as no.1 Test bowler ends

Kagiso Rabada has returned to the number one ranking for the first time since 2019. The South African bagged his 300th Test wicket in BAN vs SA 1st Test, wreaking havoc on the batters. He finished the game with 9 wickets to his name, helping him overtake Ashwin and Bumrah to jump three places to the number 1 spot.

Jasprit Bumrah, who was previously no. 1 ranked, went wicketless in IND vs NZ 2nd Test in Pune as the surface was more of a spinners’ paradise. He now sits on the 3rd position in the rankings. His teammate Ashwin, who managed to get five wickets in Pune, has also slipped down two spots to settle on the 4th position.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Noman Ali – one half of the spin twins responsible for Pakistan’s remarkable turnaround in PAK vs ENG series – reaped the reward for his exceptional spells. The spinner bagged 20 wickets in two games across Multan and Rawalpindi. He is now the 9th ranked Test bowler. Interestingly, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood occupies the 2nd position despite not having played a Test.

Virat Kohli out of top 10 Test batters

In the rankings for Test batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal moved one step closer to the number one position and is currently ranked 3rd in Tests. A 30-run knock in the 1st innings followed by a fiery 77-run knock in the 2nd innings in Pune helped the southpaw move up one spot in the rankings. Virat Kohli is out of the top ten batters and is ranked 14th after a dismal show with the bat in the 2nd Test. Rachin Ravindra has jumped 8 places to enter the top ten.

Meanwhile, Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel has saw a meteoric rise in the rankings after his dominating show in PAK vs ENG series. A 134-run knock in the 3rd Test in Rawalpindi saw the batter jump 20 places to the 7th position.
