After falling four times to Jasprit Bumrah in IND vs AUS Test series, Nathan McSweeney is unlikely to find a spot in 4th Test

Australia could be staring at a opener conundrum in IND vs AUS 4th Test after Nathan McSweeney‘s struggles against India’s premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The young opener, who came into the side in IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth, has been dismissed four times by ‘Boom Boom’ already in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. The five-match Test series is currenty tied 1-1, with the rain-hit IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Brisbane ending in a draw.

As per The Age, the Australian selectors might opt for a more proactive approach to deal with McSweeney’s struggles against Bumrah early on in the innings. The selectors will reportedly deliberate on shuffling around the batting order should they feel that the young opener can’t challenge the Indian pacer. So farn, Nathan McSweeney has scores of 10, 0, 39, 10, 9 & 4 in the ongoing IND vs AUS Test series.

McSweeney came into the side as a specialist opener for the series, replacing Steve Smith who moved back down to the middle-order. Australia have been on the hunt for Usman Khawaja’s partner ever since David Warner retired earlier this year. Young McSweeney made his way into Australia’s XI riding on the back of some stellar and consistent performances in the domestic circuit. However, he has struggled against Jasprit Bumrah in the series at home against India. This might prompt the Australian selectors to mull replacing him with Josh Inglis for the 4th Test in Melbourne.
