Jasprit Bumrah ended his 93-day wait as the Mumbai Indians’ speedster returned to competitive cricket during the MI vs RCB clash on Monday. The 31-year-old added some much-needed firepower to Hardik Pandya’s side and took no time to make his mark on the fixture. Despite going wicketless, Bumrah was the pick of the MI bowlers as RCB carted the home side for a massive 221/5 in 20 overs.
How did Bumrah fare on his injury return?
Mumbai did not turn to Jasprit with the new ball, with Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar opening the proceedings for the hosts. MI introduced Bumrah in the fourth over, with Virat Kohli carting him for a maximum. While that was an early blemish on his record, the 31-year-old bounced back with a tight spell on a belter of a pitch.
Bumrah conceded 10 of his first over and returned to bowl the 11th over of the innings, with Patidar and Kohli in full flow. The MI pacer kept things in check, varying his pace and length to concede 5 runs off his second. He returned to bowl in the death, nailing the yorker and short ball to perfection. While Jitesh Sharma got a six off him in the final over, Bumrah only conceded 14 in his last two overs.

On a day where Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar conceded at more than 14 runs an over, Jasprit kept his economy rate in check, conceding at only 7.25 an over. He was unlucky not to pick up a wicket, but the 31-year-old showed no signs of rustiness. What would please MI and Indian team fans is that the Indian pacer consistently bowled over the 140+ kph mark.
Thanks to Bumrah, Mumbai could restrict RCB to 221/5. Yes, restrict. On a day when Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma all looked in imperious touch, Bumrah’s perfection with the ball in hand kept the target still achievable. Bumrah finished with 0/29 in 4 overs. He was denied a wicket in the last ball of his spell after a third umpire review.
