Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update: BCCI to fly Bumrah to NewZealand, Jofra Archer, Shane Bond’s doctor to perform surgery as pacer RULED OUT until September – Follow LIVE Updates
As per Cricbuzz, BCCI will fly Jasprit Bumrah to NewZealand for surgery. The Indian cricket board have zeroed in on a Kiwi surgeon who has previously worked with the likes of Jofra Archer and Shane Bond. Bond, who is the bowling coach at Mumbai Indians, is likely to have recommended the same.
The arrangements are being made at a quick pace given the tight timeline of his recovery and the chance of him being at the World Cup. Post-surgery, Bumrah will face a 20-24 week rehabilitation, effectively ruling him out until September. The 2023 World Cup kicks off in October.
The report further states that it is Rowan Schouten who will perform the surgery. The Christchurch-based surgeon is famous in sporting circles having assisted Graham Inglis who operated on NewZealand players in the past, particularly Shane Bond. He also assisted in the surgeries of Australian pacers James Pattinson and Ben Dwarshius, both of who struggled with back issues alongside Jofra Archer.
In the past, BCCI has opted to fly players to Europe for specialist treatment. KL Rahul had been to Germany to treat his troublesome groin. Hardik Pandya, who like Bumrah struggled with his back, was operated on in London.
As things stand, the Indian pacer is ruled out of the IPL this season. He is also likely to miss the Asia Cup and the World Test Championship final should India qualify. Unless India play a last-minute bilateral series before the World Cup, Bumrah’s return to international cricket could be straight at the marquee event.
