Jasprit Bumrah hotter than Chennai heat for Bangladesh batters in 1st Test

Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell in Chennai is a reminder of his world-class abilities. As India eyes victory in the series, his form will be crucial in keeping Bangladesh’s batsmen on the back foot.

In the scorching heat of Chennai, Jasprit Bumrah proved to be even more difficult for the Bangladesh batters to handle as he spearheaded India’s bowling attack in the first Test of the series. His exceptional performance saw him claim four wickets, dismantling Bangladesh’s batting line-up and putting India in a commanding position.

Bumrah, who became the 10th Indian bowler to reach the milestone of 400 international wickets, was at his lethal best, achieving this feat as the fifth-fastest Indian bowler. His pace and precision were on full display, making him a nightmare for the visitors.

Clinical dismissals by Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah’s key moment came when he dismissed Hasan Mahmud just before the tea break. Delivering a ball on an off-stump line that nipped away slightly, he left Mahmud with no room to manoeuvre, squaring him up and sending him back to the pavilion. His ability to extract movement off the pitch with such speed made him unplayable for the Bangladesh lower-order.

By the time tea arrived, Bumrah had already picked up three wickets, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 112 for 8. The only brief resistance came from Shakib Al Hasan (32) and Litton Das (22), but Bumrah, along with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, had already reduced Bangladesh to 91 for 6 before the duo could even begin to stabilise the innings.

Jasprit Bumrah shines with old ball

One of the standout features of Bumrah’s spell was his success with the old ball in home conditions. He bowled 11 overs in the match, giving away just 50 runs, while taking four wickets with an economy of 4.50. His control over the old ball was evident in his numbers, showcasing his skill in all phases of the game.

In his home Test matches with the old ball, Bumrah has taken 24 wickets with an average of just 10.6, proving his dominance in challenging conditions.

India dismiss Bangladesh quickly

Bangladesh’s innings was wrapped up in just over one and a half sessions, with the visitors being bowled out for a meagre total. Apart from the brief Shakib-Litton partnership, Bangladesh had no answer to India’s bowling attack. Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Ravindra Jadeja combined to deliver a ruthless display of bowling.

As Bangladesh crumbled under pressure, Bumrah’s consistency and ability to strike at crucial moments made him the pick of the bowlers. His four-wicket haul ensured that India maintained a tight grip on the match, showcasing once again why he is one of the most feared bowlers in international cricket.

Looking ahead: India vs Bangladesh
