Jasprit Bumrah gets extended break, mystery over Ravindra Jadeja’s absence in IND vs SL ODIs

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are the two big names missing from India's ODI squad against Sri Lanka. However, both have been missed out due to different reasons!

After waiting for a couple of days, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally announced Team India squads for upcoming T20Is and ODIs against Sri Lanka away from home. While there has been a major change in the T20I captaincy, some of selections in ODIs have been startling as well. The comeback of Shreyas Iyer, the inclusion of Riyan Parag, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana, and the appointment of Shubman Gill as vice-captain have all become talking points.

Where are Bumrah & Jadeja?

However, two major names missing are undoubtedly Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. We all know the reason behind Bumrah’s non-selection. It is his injury management. After all, the player with the golden arm is our nation’s golden treasure and he needs to be handled with care. BCCI have taken the opportunity against Sri Lanka to rest Bumrah and rather give chance to Arshdeep, Khaleel, and Rana for that matter.

Is Ravindra Jadeja only Test specialist?

When Ravindra Jadeja announced his retirement the day after India won the T20 World Cup, he was reduced to a two-format player. Sitting on the verge of 200 ODIs, it is now a bit shocking not to see Jadeja’s name in the 15-man ODI squad. This is despite Jaddu’s retirement buddies, Rohit Sharma (C) and Virat Kohli, named in the team. Gautam Gambhir’s first national team squad selection in ODIs sees Washington Sundar and Axar Patel as two spin-bowling all-rounders. With Jadeja turning 36 in a few months, this might be an indication by BCCI that they are looking for the future.
