Okay, now it is becoming clearer that India pacer Jasprit Bumrah could be part of the Champions Trophy, but will miss the IND vs ENG series, due to his back injury. Now, as per the latest report in Hindustan Times, Bumrah is all set to be a part of the CT 2025 provisional squad, but there is a condition attached to it.
Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update
The report further says, that Jasprit Bumrah will play only when he is, “pain-free after returning to bowling.” The 31-year-old had picked up an injury during the IND vs AUS series, where in 5 matches, he went on to pick 32 wickets, at an average of 13. In fact, in the Sydney Test, due to the setback, he could not bowl in the second innings.
Meanwhile, the report suggested that Bumrah has already consulted New Zealand orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Rowan Schouten, who operated his back in 2023. “The surgeon is in touch with BCCI’s medical team and the selectors are expected to be informed.”
Bumrah Could be Part of Champions Trophy
Now, the next assignment for Team India starts on Jan 23 — 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs vs England, before the Champions Trophy starts on Feb 19. The provisional squad for the latter has to be submitted by Jan 12. Having said that, there is still no clarity, whatsoever, if Mohammed Shami will play for the country in the near future or not. But it seems that, he is slowly getting on the road to make it to the team again.
