Jasprit Bumrah carried India singlehandedly: Alastair Cook left mighty impressed by Indian pacer

Bumrah started his onslaught with Joe Root at time when England were in an advantageous position with 110/1 and ended it with the last wicket of James Anderson.

Former England opener Alastair Cook was left deeply impressed by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah after the latter’s 6-fer on the second day of the IND vs ENG Test. Jasprit Bumrah produced a magnificent bowling display to send more than half of the England batters packing and provided India with a sizable lead.

Bumrah started his onslaught with Joe Root at time when England were in an advantageous position with 110/1. Joe Root was done for by an outswinger that took the England batter’s edge and carried to the second slip. The pacer backed it up with a peach of delivery to dismiss previous match’s double centurion Ollie Pope. His toe-crushing yorker gave Pope no chance to defend as it rattled the stumps.

Jasprit Bumrah ripped through England with his maiden 6-wicket haul in India to give India the upper hand on Day 2 of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test.

Johnny Bairstow edged a Bumrah outswinger to slip, much like Root. Ben Stokes was a bit unlucky as a straightforward ball kept a bit low. It hit Stokes’ bottom half and went on to the stumps. Shubman Gill took a smart catch to dismiss Tom Hartley. James Anderson was caught plumb in front of the wicket by Bumrah.

Cook, speaking on TNT Sports after the day, said Bumrah carried India through singlehandedly.

“At 110-1, things were looking very different! Bumrah has carried India through today and has single-handedly changed the course of this game. Bumrah jumped in and ripped the heart out of the England batting line-up,” Cook said
