The Indian bowling hasn’t been up to par in the ongoing India vs England Test series. After having them 163/5 in the second inning in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma and Co. struggled to keep things under control. England went on to score 257 runs for the last five wickets and downed India by 28 runs to win the first Test.
Jasprit Bumrah, who ended the first match as the highest wicket-taker for his side, got no support from the other bowlers. However, he took complete control of his hands in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test.
After dispatching the English middle order in the first innings and claiming his first-ever six-wicket haul in India, he returned to take three more scalps in the second innings.
His 9-wicket haul rightly earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. After receiving the award, Jasprit Bumrah claimed that their bowling lineup is currently going through a ‘transition’ and it was his responsibility to help the other bowlers in any way possible.
“We’re going through a transition, so I feel it’s my responsibility to help them in any way I can,” Bumrah said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
India’s struggle in the series has been evident. In Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami’s absence, Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel have failed to impress, while Shami’s replacements, Mukesh Kumar and Mohammed Siraj, have taken just one wicket between them in two matches.
