India U19’s fast bowling sensation Naman Tiwari talked about Jasprit Bumrah‘s influence on his game, emphasising how speaking with the star Indian pacer has been instrumental in improving his yorker skills.
Talking to PTI, Tiwari revealed that he had few interactions with Bumrah at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) which have proven invaluable.
“Bumrah is a source of inspiration for us. I watch his bowling videos a lot. I have met him several times at NCA and talked to him a lot about the mentality and skills of a bowler. He has explained a lot of things to me, which have been useful”, Tiwari was quoted as saying to PTI.
The young pacer recalled how Bumrah gave him tips to bowl good yorkers which he has tried to incorporate in his bowling during the ongoing U19 World Cup.
“He told me how to bowl accurate yorkers, and I have worked a lot on that aspect following his advice. I have to work hard to bring more aggression in this (my bowling)”, Tiwari added.
The left-arm pacer has grabbed ten wickets from five games so far, including two four-wicket hauls.
“I try to learn something from every bowler I like. I try to understand and learn by watching his (Bumrah’s) videos. Like Shoaib Akhtar’s speed, Dale Steyn’s swing, and Mitchell Starc’s aggression very much”, the young pacer said.
India will aim to extend their World Cup-winning streak, seeking a record-extending sixth title. The Uday Saharan-led side will face Australia in final on Sunday (February 11).
