Anderson vs Kohli battle England star’s favourite: England star pacer James Anderson has opened up about his battle against India skipper Virat Kohli. The English pacer said that his face-off with Kohli in this year’s Test series was his favourite and he also said that both fierce opponents have mutual respect for each other. Anderson managed to dismiss Kohli twice at a cost of 72 runs in the course of four completed Tests.

Anderson mentioned the fierce and healthy competition the two greats share on the field. “This summer was probably my favourite contest with Virat. We’ve had a few good battles over the years, both in England and India, but this year was certainly my favourite,” said James Anderson.

“I got him out a few times but also he got some runs as well, and we had a battle on the field where there was definitely a mutual respect there. It was in a really nice manner if that makes sense. Obviously, we were going at each other, but it was in a well-spirited way. So I really enjoyed that,” James Anderson told Fox Cricket’s Road to the Ashes podcast.

Anderson vs Kohli: Anderson has dismissed Kohli seven times in Tests

Anderson and Kohli are undoubtedly the two best cricketers, not only for their countries but across the globe. Whenever the two greats of the game are up against each other, the battle is one to watch out for. While Anderson was all over Kohli in 2014, Kohli dominated the legendary pacer on his second tour to England. However, things ended on equal levels in 2021 as Anderson dismissed Kohli twice while the latter scored 72 runs.

Anderson also talked about the upcoming Ashes and said that he will definitely enjoy his potential battle with Steve Smith. “As a bowler, you always look at the best player, and for me over the last three, four, or five years, Steve Smith’s been Australia’s best player….so he’ll be the one that we will be keen to get out early,” said Anderson.

England and Australia will lock horns in a five-match Ashes, beginning December 8 in Brisbane.
