Alex Pereira became the UFC light-heavyweight champion when he knocked out Jiri Prochazka last weekend. The Brazilian fought through a difficult first round and came out on top, finishing Prochazka and became a two-division world champion. However, former champion Hill is having none of it.
Jamahal Hill Vows to Knockout New UFC LHW Champ Alex Pereira Standing
I will knock him out – Jamahall Hill sends a warning to Alex Pereira
Hill recently reviewed all the fights on the UFC 295 main card on his YouTube channel. He broke down all the exciting contests on show including the main event between Jiri Prochazka and Pereira. After giving Pereira his props for a great victory, Hill lashed out at all the criticism he received from fans.
The former light-heavyweight champion said, “Mark my words… I do not plan on taking him down, I do not plan on wrestling him.” Hill then explained how while Pereira is a very good fighter, he is not unbeatable. And that kickboxing does not translate to MMA since they are two very different sports.
The American fighter then said, “I’ve been doing MMA for years. I’ve been bred in MMA. And whenever I do fight him, standing, I will knock him out. And when I do, I’m going to run it in every single one of y’all’s face.”
These comments from Jamahall Hill show that it’s no disrespect towards Pereira’s ability but confidence in his own abilities. And while Pereira called for a fight against Adesanya, Hill, being the former champion, will most likely get the next title shot. Therefore, the American will have the opportunity to back up these claims.
Only time will tell if Jamahall Hill can do what Israel Adesanya did to Alex Pereira. What do you make of these claims from Jamahall Hill? Do you think it’s overconfidence or will he actually knock out one of the hardest hitters in the UFC?
