Jake Fraser-McGurk punches ticket for T20 World Cup! Opener to travel as reserve after IPL blitz

After playing just nine matches, Fraser-McGurk had become the first player to score three fifties in less than 20 balls.

On the back of his incredible performance for the Delhi Capitals, young Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk has made it to the T20 World Cup 2024. The 22-year-old lit the IPL 2024 fire with his incredible striking. Coming in as a replacement for veteran David Warner, he scored two 15-ball fifties and ended with a strike rate of 234.04, the highest strike rate for anyone who has played 50 or more balls.

Fraser to fly with Australia

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Jake Fraser-McGurk is likely to be part of Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup as a traveling reserve. Having already filled in for Warner in the IPL, he is picked as the reserve opener. Cricket Australia (CA) will send two reserves, one of which will be the Victorian.

Fraser-McGurk was fighting for the spot with Matthew Short, who failed to get a gig in the IPL this year but has done well in nine T20Is for Australia. The other spot, in all likelihood, will go to leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha, who’ll be the cover for Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar on spin-friendly pitches in the Caribbean.

The deadline for the final squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is May 25, and the Australian team is also scheduled to travel across the Atlantic later this week.
